Emmy Awards 2011: Best Dressed

For the first time in a long time, the Emmys were actually quite funny! I loved the bit where the gals from the Outstanding Lead in a Comedy Series rushed the stage, leading to Melissa McCarthy's well deserved win. But besides how well the actual show went, the fashions at the Emmys were just as attention grabbing. The major color trends were red, pale pinks, silver, and black. There was a ton of ruching and sequins to add extra drama to the dresses.

Take a look at my best dressed for the evening.
1. Nina Dobrev in Donna Karen. She looked absolutely flawless. Her hair was perfect the necklace wasn't too over the top and the dress created an incredible silhouette.
2. Lea Michele in Marchesa. Now Marchesa is definitely one of my favorite fashion houses, and I would have loved to give Lea my first place. However, I could not bring myself to give it to her because her hair should have been up. With such a dramatic dress back, her hair should have been in a bun at least to accentuate it. Because of this poor hair decision she has to take second place.
3. Kelly Osbourne in J Mendel. Kelly is taking her role as fashion police correspondent seriously by wowing everyone in this plum colored mermaid dress. It's such a lovely dress which does a great take on old Hollywood glamour.
4. Aubrey Plaza in Juan Carlos Obando. I was definitely not expecting this look from Aubrey, which is why I love it even more. This creme colored ruffled front gown complimented her dark wavy locks perfectly.
5. Martha Plimpton in Zac Posen. This burgundy sequined gown gave me instant memories of Dorothy's ruby slippers. I loved the cut and thought it was an excellent choice for her.
6. Jennifer Carpenter in Tony Ward Couture. Jennifer went for a soft silver gown with metallic sequins and embellishments. It looked like a modern take on a flapper (longer and without all those feathers). The dress also featured a daring slit up the front, but Jennifer pulls it off no problem.
7. Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab. Another heavily sequined gown to rival that of Martha Plimpton's red dress above. I loved this because it was a classic cut and extremely well executed to fit Evan's body like a glove. I liked that Evan didn't try to cut the dress up by adding a belt, instead she let it stand on its own.
8. Minka Kelly in Dior. Minka looked sweet and delicate in this layered navy and black lace gown. The Emmy's featured a lot of sleeved dresses (both short and long) and this was definitely one of the best. Keeping her hair up was a great decision so that it didn't take
away from the added detail of lace on the bateau neck neckline.
9. Archie Panjabi. This is such a simple dress but you've got to wonder how long it took to make that one ruffle that encircles the dress perfect. I also think the emerald color was a great contrast to all the red gowns on the carpet.
10. Jayma Mays in Zuhair Murad. I think this is such a sweet dress, very feminine and light with a tiered tulle skirt. It may be a little young but it still suits her well enough.
